The multi million dollar company, Mcdonald's Mcdonald's is one of the biggest companies in the world, with over 68 million stores worldwide. But most people still don’t know how it evolved from a small family restaurant to a big multi million dollar company. The Restaurant Back in 1940 a small barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice Mcdonald opened in San Bernardino, California.Then in 1948 they reorganized their business as a burger stand. 5 years later the first Mcdonald's franchise using the arches logo opened in Phoenix, Arizona. Ray Kroc Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent in 1955 after selling 8 milkshake mixers to the company. Then he purchased the company off of the Mcdonald’s brothers for $2.7 million dollars.
