The multi million dollar company, Mcdonald's
Mcdonald's is one of the biggest companies in the world, with over 68 million stores worldwide. But most people still don’t know how it evolved from a small family restaurant to a big multi million dollar company.
The Restaurant
Back in 1940 a small barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice Mcdonald opened in San Bernardino, California.Then in 1948 they reorganized their business as a burger stand. 5 years later the first Mcdonald's franchise using the arches logo opened in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ray Kroc
Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent in 1955 after selling 8 milkshake mixers to the company. Then he purchased the company off of the Mcdonald’s brothers for $2.7 million dollars. Based in Oak Brook, Illinois, Mcdonald's confirmed plans to move its global headquarters to Chicago by early 2018.
Evolution of the menu
Today Mcdonald’s is one of the biggest restaurant chains in the world serving approximately 68 million customers daily in over 120 countries. Mcdonald’s main menu consists of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken products, french fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, milkshakes and desserts. After getting complaints about the unhealthy food the company expanded its menu to include salads, fish, wraps, smoothies and fruit.
Money
Daily the company earns approximately $75.18 billion in revenue and according to a BBC report published in 2012, Mcdonald's is the world's second largest private employer behind walmart with 1.9 million employers; 1.5 million whom work for franchises.

In conclusion Mcdonald’s has become one of the most successful business in the world over the past years, going from a barbecue stand to a multi million dollar company.

      Hi Emma!

      We had to write about McDonald's as a class assignment.

      The most interesting part of the history was probably that it used to be a barbecue stand. I thought that was pretty cool because now when you think of the restaurant you think of hamburgers and fries.
